UK best dog lead of 2020

Trying to find the best dog lead in the UK that suits your puppy or dog doesn’t have to be a lucky dip.

It can be daunting trying to find a dog lead as a UK customer, a simple Google search will itself give you over 150,000 results to sift through. Not a task we would recommend.

But if you have landed here through a Google search then hopefully this was an early result and thankfully it is likely the last one you need to look at it.

We have bought and tested dog leads on UK dogs over the past 3 months so that we can accurately answer the question for you.

How We Reviewed This List

We have bought or borrowed, tried and reviewed over 75 dog leads or leashes on multiple dog breeds throughout the UK to give you a definitive list of the best available leads on the market.

Honestly there are a lot of dog leads that probably could make the list and there was plenty of debate on which ones finally did.

But we have picked our top 5 favourites that fit every need in some form or another.

Whether you are looking for a training lead, a puppy lead or a strong large dog lead then our list should have you covered.

All these leads have been fully tested on the dog breeds quoted with the aim to truthfully review their quality.

Our integrity is everything and anything we recommend can be guaranteed to be our own unbiased opinion as UK dog owners.

The Top 5 Best UK Dog Leads

5. Barkswell Anti Pull Shock Absorbing Bungee Dog Lead

Overall Rating

Comfort Rating

Key Features

Shock absorbing design.

Padded foam handle.

D-ring for accessories

The Barkswell shock absorbing dog lead is one that has active dogs in mind when it comes to it’s design.

The anti-shock feature helps with any dogs that pull on their lead when out walking. When a dog pulls on this leash, the shock absorbing layers will stretch and absorb the tension before it reaches your arm.

This is obviously a feature that can appeal to any owners still teaching their dog to not pull on walks. It is particularly useful with larger dog breeds who are particularly powerful with their pulling on the lead.

The clasp is a d-ring meaning it is compatible with the vast majority of collars and harnesses.

Key Features

1 inch wide nylon lead.

50 feet long for training.

Padded foam handle

Our 4th place goes to another Barkswell product that is the 50 foot training dog lead.

Whilst this lead is very different from most in the fact it comes with a huge length, it’s usefulness and quality cannot be ignored.

When training a new puppy or young dog, it can be daunting for a lot of owners when it comes to allowing them off their lead in open spaces. The fear of them not coming back is a very real and present danger in these situations.

This training dog lead solves that problem by allowing the puppy the illusion of being allowed to roam. The 50 feet of lead lets them wonder alone whilst you maintain control.

The padded foam handle helps with comfort but it’s true selling point is both it’s length and it’s 1 inch wide nylon design that will last you a very long time.

3rd place on our top 5 dog leads is for all of the fashion conscious UK dog owners.

This designer dog lead is made with genuine leather for dog owners who are looking for something of a higher quality. The Blueberry leather dog lead comes in over 10 designs and colours with all being made in exactly the same way when it comes to materials.

When we tested this dog lead we were extremely impressed by the design and look of the lead. It truly is a step up from the everyday leads out there.

The entire item is obviously strong due to it’s leather material and we found our dogs were more than happy with their chic boutique look at the dog park.

2. Vivaglory Reflective Dog Lead with Padded Handle

Overall Rating

(4.5/5)

Quality Rating

(4/5)

Durability Rating

(4.5/5)

Comfort Rating

(4.5/5)

Key Features

Dual padded handles for extra comfort.

360 degree rotating clasp.

Very durable double layered nylon design.

Our runner up in 2nd place only narrowly just missed out on the top spot.

Vivaglory’s reflective dog lead may look much like a lot of other dog leads on the market but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This dog lead is particularly strong and as soon as you feel the material you will understand it is above the quality of an average similar product.

With double threaded and reflective threading, it will certainly last a long time. It also features a heavy duty clasp as a nice icing on the cake as in our experience these tend to fail more than the lead itself.

When we tested the lead we instantly felt it was going to be a front runner just from our own personal experiences with other leads. The padded handle is particularly comfy and if you are looking for a more traditional dog lead then this has to enter your consideration.

1. JBYAMUK 5 FT Strong Dog Lead with Comfortable Padded Handle

Key Features

Very durable and will last a long time.

Padded handle for extra comfort.

Reflective threads for night safety.

And now the winner of UK best dog lead 2020!

JBYAMUK have pinched it with a relatively new dog lead on the market. Their 5ft dog lead ticks all of the boxes for us and whilst it faced hot competition from 2nd place, it is a worthy winner.

Starting with the handle of the dog lead, the comfort is second to none. It has more of a ring shape than many other dog lead handles and whilst this might depend on the person, hooking it around your wrist is very comfortable.

When it comes to the actual lead itself, you can really feel the power in the design. Woven high quality nylon has become almost unbreakable and we fully tried to break this lead on our testing. In fact, we even had Tank, our 6 year old German Shepherd, try and break it. Given enough time he will break anything but even this was a struggle.

Lightweight and long lasting is exactly what you want from a dog lead and this is it.
